Travaux de recherche en géodésie-GPS
Les activités de recherche en
positionnement cinématique GPS se sont déroulées principalement dans le cadre
d’un des projets du Réseau de centres d’excellence en géomatique GEOIDE
(ENV#14) [Santerre and St-Pierre, 1999], [St-Pierre et al., 1999], [St-Pierre, 1999], [Santerre et al., 2000a], [Santerre and Langley, 2000]. Aussi
dans le cadre de ce projet, une étude sur l’évaluation du sur-enfoncement dynamique
(squat) de navires à l’aide du GPS a été menée, en collaboration avec le
Département de génie civil de l’Université Laval [Michaud et al., 2002], [Morse
et al., 2002]. Ces travaux avaient pour but d’évaluer le dégagement sous quille
de navires commerciaux navigant dans la voie maritime du St-Laurent.
L’amélioration des algorithmes GPS-OTF, en utilisant les informations a priori
sur les niveaux de l’eau, a aussi été testée et validée sur plusieurs jeux de
données recueillies sur le fleuve St-Laurent [Zhu and Santerre, 2001, 2002a,
2002b, 2002c], [Ueno and Santerre, 2000a], [Ueno et al., 2000a, 2000b], [Michaud et al., 2000].
D’autre part, un système d’accostage de
navires a été conçu en utilisant les observations de phase de récepteurs
monofréquences L1 [Ueno,
1999], [Ueno and Santerre, 2000b]. La
position, la vitesse et l’attitude d’un navire ont été déterminées en utilisant
4 récepteurs sur un navire et une station de référence localisée près d’un
port. Les résultats ont été comparés à ceux d’autres senseurs tels qu’un
gyroscope et une station totale d’arpentage [Ueno, Santerre and Kleusberg,
2000], [Ueno and Santerre, 1999a, 1999b].
Ces recherches en mode cinématique
s’inscrivent dans les travaux du Groupe spécial d’études de l’Association
Internationale de Géodésie (AIG), SSG 1.179 : Wide Area Modelling for
Precise Satellite Positioning.
Suite aux études de déformation du pont
suspendu Pierre-Laporte à Québec par le Centre de Recherche en Géomatique en
1997, d’autres algorithmes encore plus performants ont été développés afin
d’exploiter le plein potentiel du système GPS pour ce type d’applications. Les
améliorations portent sur la pondération des observations de phase et le
calibrage des centres de phase des antennes GPS. Une comparaison entre les
résultats du calibrage en chambre anéchoïque et la poutrelle de calibrage
développée au CRG a été effectuée. Des expériences de profilage de rails de
chemins de fer, en mode cinématique, ont été menées. Les résultats ont été
comparés avec ceux obtenus à l’aide d’instruments d’arpentage conventionnels
(station totale et nivellement géométrique de précision). Ces comparaisons ont permis
de valider la haute qualité du positionnement GPS en de telles situations
[Akrour, 2002].
Une approche permettant le positionnement
relatif à l’aide d’un seul récepteur GPS a été testée [Michaud and Santerre,
2000, 2002], [Michaud, 2000, 2001]. Cette approche consiste à cumuler des
observations de phase sur un premier point dont les coordonnées sont connue et
ensuite à se déplacer (en gardant le contact sur les satellites) vers un 2e
point dont on veut déterminer les coordonnées. Les observations de phase sont
cumulées sur ce 2e point. Par la suite les observations, non
simultanées, sont combinées entre les 2 stations. Les ambiguïtés de phase
s’éliminant, s’il n’y pas eu de sauts de cycle. Cependant, les erreurs variables
dans le temps ne s’éliminent pas. Ce qui fait que les erreurs croissent avec le
temps. Le retour sur le 1er point connu permet de réduire cette
accumulation d’erreurs. Des précisions centimétriques sont alors atteignables
pour des intervalles de temps de quelques minutes [Balard, 2003].
Une sonde d’arpentage consistant en un
jalon sur lequel est disposé 2 antennes GPS permet de relever des points
difficiles d’accès. De cette façon l’utilisateur n’est plus contraint à tenir
le jalon GPS à la verticale du point à relever. L’inclinaison de la sonde
permet aussi d’éloigner les antennes des sources d’obstructions potentielles
[Bourgon, 2000], [Bourgon et al., 2002], [Santerre et al., 2000b, 2001]. Un
brevet d’invention américain a été accordé pour ce nouvel appareil. Un brevet
canadien devrait être délivré pour cette invention dans les prochains mois.
Une version semblable utilisant un jalon à
2 prismes avec une station totale a aussi été développée et testée [Bourgon et
al., 2003].
De premiers tests sur l’étude de la
performance d’athlètes de niveau olympique ont été effectués avec la
technologie GPS [Maltais et Santerre, 1999]. Par la suite, [Lambert, 2002] a
étudié plusieurs sports dont le patinage de vitesse longue piste, le ski alpin,
le canoë-kayak et le cyclisme. Les derniers tests utilisaient des récepteurs
RTK avec affichage des résultats en temps réel pour que les entraîneurs
puissent analyser les courses in-situ. La position, la vitesse et
l’accélération des athlètes sont aussi couplées à d’autres informations telles
que le rythme cardiaque, la vitesse des vents et des images de vidéo numérique.
Une importante subvention de la Fondation
Canadienne pour l’Innovation a été octroyée à un groupe de chercheurs de
l’Université Laval et McGill University. Les équipements serviront à supporter
des recherches en agriculture de précision. Un des aspects de ces recherches
portera sur le positionnement et le
guidage de véhicules à l’aide du GPS. Une première étude sur la création de
modèle numérique de terrain (MNT) avec l’approche GPS-RTK a été complétée
récemment [Parent, 2001], [Parent et al., 2000, 2001]. Auparavant, Scully [1999] avait allié les
SIG et GPS pour une meilleure gestion des épandages d’engrais organiques.
Un projet alliant le GPS et la
photogrammétrie a été réalisé, il portait sur le développement d’un outil
photogrammétrique pour la reconnaissance de nouveaux sites GPS [Sanscartier et
al., 1999] et [Sanscartier, 1999].
Moisan [1999], [Moisan and Santerre,
2000] ont étudié le potentiel de
l’utilisation du système GPS pour la détermination de l'attitude de satellites
à basse altitude, particulièrement pour le satellite canadien de télédétection
Radarsat. L’intégration du GPS aux traitement d’interférogrammes Radar a aussi
été réalisée [Vincent, 2001]. Les interférogrammes étaient créés à partir
d’images Radar provenant des satellites européen ERS et canadien Radarsat. Les
estimés des délais troposphériques et la cartographique du contenu d’électrons
dans l’ionosphère obtenues d’un mini-réseau de récepteurs GPS ont servi à
corriger les artefacts atmosphériques présents dans les interférogrammes Radar.
