J. TUZO WILSON MEDAL
The Executive of CGU solicits nominations for the J. Tuzo Wilson Medal.
The Union gives this award annually to recognize scientists who make
outstanding contributions to Canadian geophysics. Factors taken
into account in the selection process include excellence in scientific
or technical research, instrument development, industrial applications
and/or teaching.
Nominations for the J Tuzo Wilson Medal may be submitted at any time. If you would like to nominate a candidate please
contact
Dr. Cherie Westbrook, CGU Awards Committee Chair (e-mail: cherie.westbrook@usask.ca).
At a minimum, the nomination should be supported by letters of
recommendation from colleagues, a brief biographical sketch and
a Curriculum Vitae of the nominee. Typical nominations in
recent years have included a nomination letter summarizing the outstanding
contributions of the nominee and at least half a dozen letters of
recommendation from renowned Canadian and International colleagues.
The citations of past Wilson medalists published in July issues of CGU
Newsletter ELEMENTS are often a good indication of the content
of a successful nomination letter.
Nominations should be submitted by January 20,
2013, for award given in May 2013, at the Annual Scientific Meeting.
